You might be wondering if eating raw weed is enough to get you high. There is nothing new about eating cannabis instead of smoking it. In fact, many people enjoy using edibles. They are a big part of the cannabis industry.

But if you have ever used edibles in the past, you probably know that it does not have raw cannabis. So, what would happen if you did eat raw bud? Keep reading to learn more about using raw weed.

Will You Get High from Raw Weed?

You will likely be disappointed if you want to eat some uncooked flower and get high. You need to know more about the chemistry of cannabis to understand why this is. The marijuana plant has natural chemicals called cannabinoids. When you eat and metabolize marijuana, the compounds will go into your body, interacting with your endocannabinoid system.

This will trigger a lot of changes and activities, such as the way you perceive pain, your sleep, your mood, and more. One of these changes is feeling high. However, you will only feel like that if you have active THC.

It turns out that there is no readily available THC in raw cannabis. Instead, it has THCA, which is a precursor to THC but is not psychoactive. However, when you expose your weed to heat, the THCA will then become THC.

The process is known as decarboxylation, and if you have ever made your own edibles, you may have done this to your weed. When you smoke it, the process happens when it is ignited. But this critical aspect is missing if you eat raw cannabis. All you are getting is THCA, which doesn’t do anything for you.

What If You Eat Raw Cannabis?

If you still want to eat your marijuana raw, don’t worry about it. Even though you will not get high, it is not like eating uncooked meat — you will not get sick. In fact, some cannabis users believe that without decarboxylation, they can better experience some therapeutic effects without becoming high. These users believe that you can enjoy the plant’s entire profile when it is raw.

Juicing Raw Cannabis

Juicing Raw Cannabis

If using raw marijuana appeals to you, then you may want to consider juicing it. By doing this, you might be able to better get the minerals and vitamins in the plant. In addition, you can avoid ingesting the fibres of the plant, which can be hard on some people’s digestive systems.

Many users find that they enjoy the taste of a juice better than the entire plant. One reason is that you can easily combine the cannabis juice with smoothies or other juices. Some people enjoy mixing cannabis juice with fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamins.

How to Juice Cannabis

To do this, you will need raw marijuana and a juicer. You can juice the entire plant, including the leaves, stems, and buds. Chop it up, but don’t worry about cutting it up too fine. Slowly add the pieces in batches to the juicer. If you are using other vegetables or fruits, add them, as well.

Is Eating Raw Cannabis Worth It?

Even though you cannot ultimately get high from using raw cannabis does not mean that it isn’t worthwhile. Many people believe they can potentially get health benefits by juicing their cannabis. If you like the idea of juicing it, then there are a few different ways you can do it. If you just want a concentrated dose, then you can use the flower in your juicing.

On the other hand, if you grow cannabis or can access leftover trimmings or entire plants, don’t throw it away just yet. After you trim and harvest the bud, put all of the leftover pieces in a juicer. You can save the flower for a good smoke later on while getting every last bit out of the plant.

How to Decarb Cannabis

If your goal is to get high and you only have raw marijuana, you can easily decarb it at home. This process involves using an oven, which is the classic method of doing it. Preheat the oven to around 105 degrees Celsius.

Then, grind up the bud using a grinder or your hands. Make sure that it is fine enough that it will not burn in the oven. Your cannabis should be around the size of a grain of rice. That will reduce the chances of it burning in the oven.

If the oven is too hot, the THC can burn off. So, gently crumple a piece of aluminum foil and place that on the baking sheet. It will minimize your weed’s contact with the baking sheet, which will get hotter than the foil will. When you place the sheet in the oven, try to place it in the middle. The oven is cooler at the bottom and hotter at the top, so the middle will ensure that the marijuana is baking at the right temperature.

Place your baking sheet in your oven and leave it for around 45 minutes. Stir it about halfway, so it can decarb evenly on all the sides. It should be golden brown and lightly toasted when you are done. Allow it to cool for around half an hour before you put it away. You can now use it in your favorite recipes to make edibles. For instance, many people like to make cannabutter and use that in recipes.

Closing Thoughts

Some people believe that you can experience health benefits by consuming raw cannabis. While it will not get you high, you can place the plants in a juicer and mix the liquid with other beverages. Juicing is a great way to use up every last bit of your cannabis plant. However, just to be safe, you will want to avoid using cannabis, either decarboxylated or raw, if you have to take regular drug tests. It might show up even if you have no THC in your system.
